What Motivates You?

My personal trainer MARK posted this photo this week on his facebook page for clients as motivation.

Instead of it being about food or commitment or exercise, it was something much more simple.

What Motivates You?

Well beyond this picture just being overly cute, it really bothered me because I had no answer to that simple question.

As I pondered this question for days this week, I came up with:   shopping, buying new smaller clothes and looking and feeling Great and Confident in my appearance at social gatherings and Work.

I am 100% certain that this world in 2012 is prejudice against overweight people and think less of them in terms of worth.   I am certain because I am one of the millions who are obese.    What have I settled for in life because I'm fat.  Does my internal mattra sing like the song from the 80's, don't worry...oh be happy your a phatty after all'.

I broke down and went shopping this weekend for the first time in probably 10 months and bought some really cute things.   But the best purchase of all was some wonderful feeling totally Awesomified Panties.

These damn things cost $10 per pair or 3 for $30 as they advertise.   WHAT? ? ?

Does my Ass that looks exactly like this need sexy, silky and the most awesomeness material I have ever felt in my life rubbing up against it in the form of Panties....?

The answer is and was ..... HELL TO THE YES!

I had a great shopping trip and it felt wonderful to reward myself with a few new things.

Ok so back to my question, What Motivates You?    I'm still wondering if this is my real motivation or is there something more!

Is this an acceptable motivation factor or too shallow?

  1. Looking good naked motivates me. Probably won't ever happen... but hey.

  2. I'd like to think that is purely health reasons that motivate me, as my grandfather died young of heart disease / diabetes. My mom has been diabetic since her late 30's / early 40's and does a HORRIBLE job of taking care of it. But I haven't yet had the medical issues (my blood seems to be more on my dad's side). So, if I'm being truthful, I'm right there with you. I want to be comfortable with myself, which will not happen until I can see my toes without bending over! lol

  3. I think we would all be lying if we said that looking good and shopping for cute clothes doesn't motivate us! I know it motivates me, I have been overweight my whole life and the thought of buying clothes in "regular" stores excites me to no end! NOT SHALLOW, THAT IS REALITY!

  5. I don't think that's shallow. Everyone wants to feel/look good. That's human nature...no one sits around saying "I love being fat! All these rolls are just TOOO damn sexy!!" (Ok, well maybe people with fetishes but not most people..) "I love shopping in the MOoMOo section! I love the fact that I can't wear anything trendy...all I can wear is old lady tents! WOO HOO!!!" lol ok, maybe i'm being dramatic but you get the point! I think it's a great motivation. Your health is always #1 but as far as day to day motivation? Our physical appearance is where we SEE results. We have to see results to stay motivated. We can't SEE our blood sugar, or our blood pressure... until test time... But we sure as hell can see those cute ass pants slid up our thighs and button! :)
